About Us

Youth for Development (Youth4dev.org)
Youth for Development (Youth4dev.org) is a platform to share development thoughts through articles, opinions, reflective pieces, conversations and photo stories. Through this platform, we aim to build a community for development students, scholars and practitioners.
The meaning of development is contested, so are its applications and implications. The academic understanding of development has been in the mainstream literature for quite a long time. Lately, thinkers of this discipline have focused more on the practical aspects of development in specific and wider contexts. Interdisciplinary studies have increasingly focused and enriched this subject with varied perspectives. Standing at a time of the universal Sustainable Development Goals, we foresee the emergence of diverse thinking and debate on development.
On that background and foresight, we, a group of students of development studies have created an online platform in order to share and practice contemporary development thoughts.

Our mission is promoting discussions and debates across a broad gamut of subjects that are within, or relate to and affect the global development spectrum- education, public health, poverty, gender, politics, economics, international relations, anthropology, sociology and so forth. We offer a space for intellectual debate and expression of thoughts and opinions on cross-cutting social, political and cultural issues pertaining to the subject of local, national and international development. We invite informed participation by all that are interested in contributing opinions, reflective pieces and articles, both theoretical and evidence-based in nature. We also welcome photo stories and conversations related to development.
We encourage all kinds of expected and unexpected views and perspectives from any parts of the world; we welcome analysis or review of any development concept, thought or issue; and we respect any kind of opinion streaming the main or the opposite. We believe in saying about development in a simple manner, which is understandable and engaging for the readers. We determine to make this platform a genuine source for the readers and contributors, students and scholars, as well as for development activists and leaders. We call this platform ‘Youth4dev.org’.
Youth4dev.org is a not-for-profit organization dedicated solely to produce knowledge, debates, information and nothing else.

Our Mission

Youth4dev.org is a nonprofit organization that aims to empower Palestinian, Syrian , and Lebanese youth people and strengthen their social inclusion, participation and influence in society. Youth4dev.org plans to achieve this by enhancing young people’s employability and by providing them with proper means, skills and knowledge to get actively involved in policy making and social life and dialogue.

Our Vision

Young people are empowered, educated and tolerant of others. Young people enjoy all their rights and are enabled to participate effectively in decisions that influence their future. The society is free of all forms of discrimination and provides a peaceful and encouraging platform for the young people to be fairly represented. Youth4dev.org is a learning and resilient organization that is an authority on all issues related to young people. The organization operates with transparency, accountability and good governance and has a highly dedicated, capable and functional team that provides highly relevant and quality services.

Participation: Participation is essential in fostering more democratic societies. No reform process aiming at sustainable political, economic and social development could be achieved without proper representation, participation and the inclusion of the people.

Democratic Rights: Sustainable participation requires a number of fundamental rights that would protect and safe-guard it. As such, YOUTH4DEV.ORG believes that young people should have the right to participate in political life and to be fairly represented, but in order to do so, they should have several civil rights including the right to express their opinion and the right of assembly. YOUTH4DEV.ORG believes that these fundamental rights should not only be incorporated in the country’s constitution but should also be adopted and implemented within the legal framework and laws.

Empowerment: Empowerment means developing young people’s confidence and ability to participate. YOUTH4DEV.ORG believes that young people not only need be given the proper tools to participate and influence decision-making processes, but opportunities and potentials of participation need to be fostered as well. In addition, YOUTH4DEV.ORG supports the concept of young change agents or leaders that can promote and induce meaningful change in the community.

Tolerance: YOUTH4DEV.ORG strongly supports peaceful coexistence and the concept that everyone has the right to follow and practice their own social and spiritual beliefs without oppression or discrimination. YOUTH4DEV.ORG believes that tolerance is a fundamental right in a democracy and learning to live with each other and accepting our differences, is central to bringing about peace.

Equity and Gender Balance: YOUTH4DEV.ORG believes that young people, especially young women, represent the future and thus should be empowered to voice out their opinions, be allowed to develop and defend their civil rights, get fair representation and the equitable opportunity to flourish and live with hope, peace and dignity.
